Grants to Kansas and Missouri nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and educational and religious institutions to improve education for children from birth through age five in the Kansas City region. Funding is intended to improve current program provision through curriculum enhancements, capacity building, child screening and assessment, and teacher and leader development.

Programs in Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas and Cass, Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties in Missouri enrolling at least forty percent children from lower-income families are eligible for grants. Organizations working directly with early learning programs on quality improvement initiatives also qualify for this opportunity.

Programs are required to use an evidence-based tool to assess kindergarten readiness (or progress toward) or be applying for funding to adopt such a tool as part of the project.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Up to $100,000 per year over two years.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

- The organization must be a 501(c)(3) public charity or a governmental, educational, or religious institution.
- At least 40 percent of the children enrolled at the time of application must be receiving free/reduced lunch, child care subsidy, tuition assistance, or be enrolled in a public assistance program based on family income.
- The organization must be located in Cass, Clay, Platte, or Jackson Counties in Missouri or Johnson or Wyandotte Counties in Kansas.

The application period opens on May 6 2019 12:00 AM (CDT).
