Grants of up to $10,000 to Kansas and Missouri nonprofit organizations in eligible counties for organizational expenses. Applicants are required to submit a Letter of Intent prior to submission of the full proposal. Funding is intended for organizations providing critical human services, including emergency assistance, shelter, safety-net health care, child welfare, and youth services. Eligible organizations must be based in and provide the majority of their services within the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, defined as Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas, and Cass, Clay, Jackson, and Platte Counties in Missouri.

The Unrestricted Operating Support Cycle provides mission-based operating support through unrestricted grants.  This unrestricted funding may be used for organizational expenses which are part of a board-approved annual budget, including administrative salaries, employee benefits, utilities, office supplies and equipment, technology, rent, and professional development.

The Foundation does not typically make grants for multi-year commitments.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant organizations must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Tax Status: Eligible organizations must have been determined to have 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service, and if this organization is a foundation, that it has been determined to be a non-private foundation.
- Geographic Parameters: Eligible organizations must maintain ongoing operations, including staffing and programs, within the greater Kansas City metropolitan area

The Menorah Heritage Foundation seeks to support organizations who:
- Maintain a history of compassion and excellence
- Address the needs and represent the interests and viewpoints of their clients
- Possess the leadership, management, efficiencies and resources necessary to achieve the organizational objectives
- Collaborate with other providers whenever feasible and appropriate
- Establish financial stability and present a sense of awareness regarding the details of operations

The following organizations are not eligible to apply in the Unrestricted Operating Support Cycle: colleges and universities, hospitals, K-12 schools, arts organizations, local chapters of regional or national organizations, organizations that require or advocate religious activity as part of or in exchange for services, and organizations with annual budgets in excess of approximately $5 million dollars.

The Menorah Heritage Foundation does not typically make grants for the following:
- Lobbying, propaganda, or other attempts to influence legislation
- Sectarian purposes (programs that promote or require a religious doctrine)
- Capital campaigns
- Fundraising events, including sponsorship, tickets, and advertising
- Individual scholarship support
- Deficit funding
- Endowment support or multi-year commitments

Timeline:
- This cycle consists of two phases: a Letter of Intent, followed by a full Grant Application for those invited to apply.
- The Letter of Intent information will be available by March 1 . Deadline for submission is April 15 at 11:59 p.m.
- The notification of an invitation to apply will be sent via email through our online system to those organizations who are invited to submit a full application by April 30.
- The grant application deadline is June 1 at 11:59 p.m. Menorah Heritage Foundation does not accept late applications.

Please contact MHF at least two weeks prior to submission deadlines if you are a new applicant, or are applying for a new program not previously funded.

The Menorah Heritage Foundation accepts only one grant request per organization per calendar year.
