Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $2,500 to USA artists and organizations addressing social issues through video and film. A written request for an application is required. The Foundation focuses on new and emerging artists whose creative works seek to change and improve lives but might have difficulty being aired due to genre and/or social philosophy. Due to the Corona Virus, 2021 proposals will only be accepted in the disciplines of Video/Film and Environmental.

The Foundation is interested in art that educates the public on topical issues. For example, projects that seek to enrich and inform the public on important subjects such as the physical environment, social justice, civil rights and other contemporary issues facing the country (and the planet), that some organizations might hesitate to fund. The Foundation also gives special consideration to communities and school districts that are under-served by the arts.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Average grants are approximately $1,250. The maximum grant size is $2,500.

Term of Contract:

Applicants may apply for a multi-year project, as long as the proposed timeline that is spelled out in the proposal does not present a problem on the Foundation's end. A timeline is strongly suggested for proposals - open ended proposals are discouraged.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

For individuals: Grants from the Puffin Foundation, Ltd. can only be awarded to permanent residents and citizens of the United States, or from current DACA recipients with Social Security numbers. USA citizens whose projects encompass work in other countries are still eligible to apply. The Foundation focuses on new and emerging artists, established artists either will not be or are less likely to be considered.

For organizations: Federal ID numbers are only requested for applicants applying as a non-profit organization or using a fiscal sponsor that will receive and administer any grant received. Non-profits should include a photo-copy of the IRS Determination letter.

The Foundation does not have the means to fund large film/documentary proposals, grants for travel, continuing education, or the writing or publishing of books. Please note that organizations with an annual budget of more than $500,000 and any project whose total budget exceeds $250,000 are not eligible for funding.

The Foundation does not fund travel or conference fees. The Foundation does not have the resources to offer financial assistance for scholarships, fellowships or educational funding. However, it does consider proposals for particular artistic projects from students during the grant cycle that are not connected to studies.

Pre-Application Information:

Application packets may only be requested starting September 1, 2020. The only way to receive an application is by sending a #10 SASE to the address below

Requests for application packets must be received by December 15th. completed/returned applications must be postmarked by December 31st.

The Foundation requests that previous grantees allow a one-year hiatus prior to reapplication. This allows grants to be available to an even wider number of applicants. Applicants may only submit one proposal per year. Requests for the same project should not be made by multiple applicants.

Applicants will be notified on an ongoing basis about the decision on the application from January 15. All applicants should hear about the status of proposals by July 1. Please do not call to inquire about application status.
