Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $25,000 and one larger multi-year grant to Missouri and Illinois nonprofit organizations for community benefit programs in eligible locations. A letter of inquiry is required prior to the submission of a full application. Funding is intended organizations focused on one of the following areas: education, arts and culture, health, social services, and the environment. Applicants must be in the Greater St. Louis area.

Grants of $5,000 – $25,000 will be awarded.
Multi-Year Request (3years @ $33,333/year)

Term of Contract:

Single year grants are awarded or mutli-year grants for 3 years.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for SOS grant funding, organizations must:
- Have public charity status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code issued to an organization located in the Greater St. Louis Community
- Have an operating budget of less than $1.5 million
- Be headquartered and provide services within the Greater St. Louis Community which includes the City of St. Louis and/or the following counties: St. Louis, St. Charles, Jefferson and Franklin in Missouri or St. Clair, Madison and Monroe in Illinois. (Organizations can provide services outside this specific area but SOS will only fund the services provided to the Greater St. Louis Community.)

SOS does not award grants for:
- Organizations not operating within the Greater St. Louis Community
- Services delivered outside of the Greater St. Louis Community
- Chapters of national organizations receiving financial support from their national office
- For-profit organizations
- Major building/capital campaigns, although program-specific capital requests may receive grants
- Conferences or benefits
- Individuals, for any purpose
- Scholarships for a named individual, although scholarship funds may receive grants
- Endowments
- Projects that promote religious or political doctrine
- Research (medical or otherwise)
- Operating deficits/retirement of existing debt

Pre-Application Information:

Application Process:
- Organization must register (Approval within a week)
- Letters of Inquiry will be accepted September 1, 2020 – September 25, 2020 for the current grant cycle.
- Submit a proposal ONLY if you have submitted a Letter of Inquiry and SOS has requested a full proposal. All full grant applications must be received on or before January 29, 2021 by 5 pm.

Multi-year grant applicants must submit a Three Year Project Strategic Plan using the SOS template. This does not apply to single-year grant applicants.

Organizations receiving SOS grants for two consecutive years or receiving a multi-year grant must wait one year before applying for additional grant money.
