Awards to Missouri and Illinois K-12 public and private teachers and college professors in eligible locations to recognize excellence in the field. Awardees will be selected based on passion and commitment to the profession, evidence of successful classroom teaching approach, professional growth and development; innovation and creativity in the classroom; and knowledge of current teaching techniques and educational issues. The nominee's employing educational institution must be located in the St. Louis metropolitan area, which is defined to include: (in Missouri) Franklin County, Jefferson County, St. Charles County, St. Louis City, St. Louis County; and (in Illinois) Jersey County, Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County.

Emerson’s 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award recipients, with the exception of college-level educators, will also be eligible to apply for Gold Star cash grants that Emerson has made available to help support the educational and classroom goals of these teachers.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Participation in the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards Program is by open invitation to all public and private schools in the St. Louis metropolitan area providing full-time instruction for students in kindergarten through college.

Only teachers who have completed three or more years of employment at their current school are eligible to be selected, and a teacher cannot be nominated for the same school district more than once.

Pre-Application Information:

Submissions are now being accepted for the 2020 Excellence in Teaching Awards. The deadline is Friday, September 25, 2020.

Each school district or educational institution is permitted to select one honoree for every 500 full-time teachers. If your school district or educational institution has less than 500 full-time teachers, select one honoree.

Only one honoree may be submitted per nomination form. For school districts and educational institutions eligible for multiple honorees,submit multiple nomination forms, one per honoree.

Honorees are announced and typically recognized at an invitation-only awards ceremony sponsored by Emerson that is held each November. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related uncertainties, the Excellence in Teaching Awards ceremony will not be held. Each honoree will receive their Excellence in Teaching Award from Emerson later this year.
