- The mission of Amarillo Senior Citizens Association is to help senior citizens maintain independence, wellness, and quality of life through programs and services that meet their present and future needs.
- Programs or services
- The Thrive after 55 on Route 66 capital campaign is seeking funding for the 55+Club of Amarillo (aka Amarillo Senior Citizens Association) to develop a new Senior Activities Center for Amarillo's older adults.
- Detailed programs
- The Amarillo Senior Citizens Association (ASCA), a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1973, has served thousands of older adults through programs that support independence, wellness, and quality of life. In 2025, ASCA rebranded as The 55+ Club of Amarillo to reflect its broad service to a quarter of Amarillo’s population—over 50,000 residents aged 55 and above.
ASCA operated downtown for 47 years until the loss of its facility in 2020. Despite setbacks, the Board purchased a vacant building at 2404 SW 6th Avenue, located on Historic Route 66, and invested more than $327,000 in exterior renovations, asbestos removal, and demolition. The new facility represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a vibrant Senior Activities Center for Amarillo’s growing aging population.

- Current projects
- The 55+ Club of Amarillo's mission is to build a new Senior Activities Center—a dynamic space where local seniors can gather, stay active, and thrive through wellness programs, social events, arts, and lifelong learning. The happy coincidence that the facility is located on Historic Route 66 lends historical relevance to the project. Amarillo residents who can remember the glorious days of the “mother road” will appreciate the symbolism of freedom, mobility, and independence that Route 66 represents. What better place for the new Senior Activities Center to be, where everyone can THRIVE AFTER 55 while getting their kicks on ROUTE 66!
The 55+ Club is embarking on a capital campaign to raise $1.9 million to complete the renovation and construction of the building’s interior in a two-phase project. - Organization goals
- Phase II of the Thrive after 55 on Route 66 Campaign:
The second phase of the project will add additional classrooms and expand the main multi-purpose room, which will also serve as a dining hall. Additionally, a warming kitchen and a food service area will be added, along with men’s and women’s bathrooms located at the rear of the facility. The estimated cost of Phase II is $600,000.
Once Phase II of the building renovation is completed, 55+ Club will be fully operational, offering all the same services and programs it has traditionally offered, plus expanded programs as the program grows and membership increases. - Leadership
