Grants of up to $125 and in-kind grants of pet store discounts to USA and Canada PreK-9 public and private school teachers to purchase classroom pets, or to help cover the costs of current pet maintenance. Funding is intended to provide children with the experience of bonding with and caring for their pets responsibly.
Three types of grants are available:
- Store Grants (choose one of 6 participating retailers)
- Rebate Grants ($75 for small animal; $125 for fish/reptile/amphibian)
- Sustaining Grants ($50 yearly for maintenance of current pet)
If you are seeking a classroom pet not listed on one of the retailer grants, or if you choose to shop at a different pet store other than one listed, you can choose the Pets in the Classroom Rebate grant. This is a rebate program that allows the teacher to make purchases and then submit receipts for reimbursement.
