Fellowships to USA individuals for extensive research projects. The fellowships are intended to support a range of projects and activities that display outstanding analytics and high-level writing skills. Applications must clearly express a project's value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Applications are invited from scholars in all disciplines of the humanities, and submissions are encouraged from independent scholars and junior scholars.
Fellowships provide recipients time to conduct research or to produce books, monographs, peer-reviewed articles, e-books, digital materials, translations with annotations or a critical apparatus, or critical editions resulting from previous research. Projects may be at any stage of development.
NEH is especially interested in supporting projects that advance humanities-related work in the following areas: “A More Perfect Union”: NEH Special Initiative Advancing Civic Education and Commemorating the Nation’s 250th Anniversary. Up to 80 grants per deadline
Fellowships include a stipend of $5,000 per month. The maximum stipend is $60,000 for a twelve-month period.
6-12 months, starting as early as January 1, 2021 (for applications submitted on or before April 8, 2020), and starting as early as January 1, 2022 (for applications submitted on or before April 14, 2021).
The period of performance must be full-time and continuous. Teaching and administrative assignments or other major activities may not be undertaken during the period of performance.
